We empower the most at-risk children through educational support, enabling them to maximize their school experience and laying the groundwork for a fulfilling and successful future.

While the advantages of accessing education are immense, the expenses associated with sending children to school in Uganda pose significant barriers for most slum dwellers.

The expenses including school fees, uniforms, stationery, shoes, and transportation render it impossible for many children to attend school. The pervasive poverty makes it challenging to save, with funds often redirected to urgent necessities like food.

Education represents opportunity and empowerment. By fostering education, we equip children with the essential skills needed for a brighter future, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.

Nursery, Primary and Secondary Education

Every year, we welcome 25-30 new children into our baby nursery class, bringing our total to over 225 children attending UHfH school. Additionally, we support more than 105 children enrolled in nearby primary and secondary schools.

Even though these children attend other schools, our commitment to their welfare, health, and education remains steadfast. Our social workers engage with them daily, and they actively participate in our holiday program during school breaks.

Holiday Programme

Throughout the school holidays, three times a year, we organize a holiday program for all our children. This initiative serves multiple purposes: it keeps the children away from the risks of the slum environment, provides them with a chance to socialize with friends, and ensures they have an enjoyable time during their break from school.

The program features various sports, games, and activities tailored to their interests and age groups. Additionally, we continue to provide them with two nutritious meals each day, ensuring their well-being is maintained even outside the regular school term.

Reading Support

The inability to read or write impedes a child’s long-term prospects significantly, affecting various aspects of their life. To address this challenge, we offer one-on-one support for students at UHfH school who are facing difficulties with reading. Additionally, we maintain a highly regarded school library that is accessible to all children throughout the week, with the added benefit of allowing them to borrow books to read at home. These initiatives aim to enhance literacy skills and broaden educational opportunities for our students.
